More Than Metal

From concrete, to foam, and anything in between, I can work with any material that makes sense for your project, however, I am running a metal working shop first and foremost. I won’t, and probably shouldn’t, build you a set of cabinets strictly out of wood. You’ll want a cabinet maker for that!

Currently I try to respond to all custom work requests Wednesday evenings and Sunday evenings.

Rush Jobs

I will only take on rush plasma jobs if the order is 10 or more pieces. Maximum limits will be put in place depending on turn around time expected. Rush jobs will incur a 2x premium on labour rates during my regular working hours and a 3.5x premium on labour during non-regular hours. There will also be a 2.5x premium on machine time during regular hours and a 1.5x premium during non-regular hours.

I will not accept rush fabrication/welding work unless you’ve exhausted all other avenues and it affects your livelihood.

Costs and Estimates

All prices are in Canadian dollars. PST extra will be applied to final amount.

Depending on the scope of the project I may require an upfront payment before proceeding with design and material scoping. A good example of this would be a custom gate or a multi-panel privacy screen installation.

For any work that is new to me (ie. I haven’t made something similar or don’t already have a variation in the catalog), I will only provide an estimate on materials and labour not a guaraneed quote. I try as hard as I can to make my estimates as close to a quote as I can based on the information I have, but it doesn’t always work out that way.

For anything that I have done previously I can provide a quote/price which will be valid for as long as the metal supplier can guarantee their prices. That can sometimes change often so I will communicate that with the quote.

Minimum Custom Order (regardless of size) – $125

Design Work – $75/hr billed in 15 minute increments

depending on how specific the request and quality of information provided, most custom signs can be designed within an hour.

Powder Coating – $6 / sqft

Sign off

If the request is for a plasma cut sign then we will be working back and forth on the design until it’s just right! When you’re happy with what you see, I’ll move on to getting it made!

If this is a larger project, the process is slightly more involved. Once I’ve collected all of the information I need which may include several iterations of a design, I will put together a statement of work that will include my interpretation of what you expect of me, a breakdown of materials required, details on any installation services if required, the final design, timelines, and cost to be signed off by you.

Deposits

A non-refundable deposit for the value of the material will be required before any work starts. Depending on the size of the project, milestone payments may be required. This would be discussed and agreed upon as part of the statement of work.

Expectations

I prefer to over-communicate so that you have every opportunity to pick-up on, and correct anything that isn’t meeting your expectations. It’s definitely cheaper, easier, and less stressful to fix the problem sooner rather than later! Pictures of the progress will be shared often and are kept in a private album, but you are able to share the link with whomever you want.
